Really looking forward to this. Girard, yes, and the Eastern connection is tantalizing. I've been thinking of late about Girard's "interdividual" and Thich Nhat Hanh's "interbeing" so I'm sure I'll find veins to mine. And, from what I've read here, great prose.

Hi Alex! Love your work. Can't wait for this book! Will it cover Spinoza on beatitude and meaningful living and the free person? Will it cover Nietzsche and the Spinoza-Nietzsche connection? What are the table of Contents? What's the main thesis you're advancing?

Thank you for your interest! I don’t discuss Nietzsche, although I know he’s very relevant to the theme. Brook Ziporyn’s new book, on a similar topic, has a lot about Nietzsche, so you might be interested in that, if you don’t know it already.

Good point re ToC; I’ll add it to this post when I get time.

Sounds good!

What's the title of that book you're referring to?

And yes, I do think Nietzsche is so very relevant for these topics that interest both of us. From talk of sin to redemption to eternity and blessedness and amor dei (amor fati), when I was reading your book The Philosophy of Hope: Spinoza on Beatitude, it really seemed to me the discussion could be even more rich with throwing yet another philosopher into your comparative philosophy mix of Spinoza and Zhuangzi! Nietzsche.

The Ziporyn book is this one: https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/E/bo230169826.html

I also like Chen Guying's comparative studies of Nietzsche and Zhuangzi, found e.g. in his book on Zhuangzi: https://brill.com/display/title/32625?language=en

I have thought a bit about the connection between Spinozist beatitude and Nietzschean amor fati, but not nearly enough!
